More about us

The Protein Spotlight blog (ISSN 1424-4721) was founded in the year 2000. Its purpose is to write articles on the hard facts of given proteins while offering a pleasant and relatively undemanding read for the Scientific Community.

Since September 2000, science writer Vivienne Baillie Gerritsen has been writing one article a month on a specific protein or family of proteins which appear in the protein sequence and function databank UniProtKB Swiss-Prot.

In 2020, 20 years after the first Protein Spotlight article was written, to widen our audience we decided to adapt twenty of the Protein Spotlight articles into comic strips (English and French versions), and we asked the Geneva-based to create them on a regular basis from June 2020. The series begins with an introduction to the world of proteins. The project ended in Spring 2023.

If you are visiting our site for the first time, you can subscribe to the articles or to the comics, and we will let you know when a new article or comic strip has been posted.

If you would like to make any comments or ask for information, you are very welcome to get in touch with us via our contact page.
